CRISOL Project

CRISOL – CREATIVE PROCESSES is an international art exchange program launched in 2019 by Fabbrica Europa, an Italian art institution. It aims to promote shared creative processes between Italian and Asian artists and foster exchanges of practice. CRISOL supports artists who are actively exploring, encourages collective research, including through original methods and innovative forms, even in unconventional venues, and establishes open dialogues with audiences at the same level.

CRISOL 2022-24, financed under the Boarding Pass Plus 2022/2023/2024 programme of the Italian Ministry of Culture, was promoted by a network of 7 Italian organisations, of which Fabbrica Europa is the lead partner, and by 9 international partners from Belgium, Norway, Spain, India, Macao, Singapore, Japan, Canada and Cuba.

The 2022 program brought together five performance artists—Roberta Racis (Rome), Fabio Novembrini (Florence), Albert Garcia (Macau/Taipei), January Low (Kuala Lumpur), and Jereh Leung (Singapore) — for artistic exchange, exploring long-term patterns of cross-regional collaboration. The 21-day CRISOL residency program took the artists to Cagliari, Verbania, Florence, and Bologna. They engaged in artistic exchange around Jill Soloway's "Female Gaze," exploring the issues of the audience's gaze and visual pleasure, the male gaze in relation to artistic creation and the gaze of the assumed audience, and the aesthetic emotions, considerations, and questions shared through practice and current creation, using the practical ideas she outlined.

In 2023, CRISOL plans to "perform" in the form of DIORAMA, an exhibition of performance events presented by six artists from Italy and Asia, including:

  • Albert Garcia (Macau/Taipei) performed abstract from the Survival Practice
  • Er Gao (Guangzhou, China) presented his installation performance Butterfly Island
  • Olympia Fortuni (Italy)presented his installation performance the Vanishing Act
  • Fabio Novembrini (Italy) presented interactive performance MIMETISMO
  • Jereh Leung (Singapore)presented video performance Mrs Chan & Mr Chow
  • Roberta Racis (Italy)presented interactive performance Scraps
