Club Loneliness to Perform in Guangzhou<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dance work Club Loneliness<\/i>, which premiered at the 33rd Macao Arts Festival, brought together dancers from Macao, Guangzhou, and Berlin, perfectly showcasing Macao's unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures. Its diverse cast and profound themes garnered widespread acclaim. Producer of Stella & Artists, Stella Ho, revealed that Guangzhou audiences are very open to modern dance and eagerly anticipate bringing the work to their local audience. The performance will take place on 21 September 2025 at the Canton Tower Theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Created by Israeli choreographer Nir de Volff, whose works are known for their mirror-like quality, allowing viewers to see their own behavior and attitudes, this dance work focuses on the digital age, exploring the contradiction of \"convenient communication yet increased loneliness\". Technology brings people closer, but fails to alleviate inner loneliness. The work also revolves around humanity's pursuit of love and confronting loneliness\u2014a generational issue. The dancers use intricate movements to release the tension inherent in the theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the creative background, Stella Ho said, \u201cThe work was a project of the Macao Arts Festival in 2023 and I facilitated it as the producer. The core concept was to bring together choreographer from abroad with local dancers to elevate the level of contemporary dance in Macao and spark creative inspiration. Initially, the plan was for three dancers from Berlin to be paired with three dancers from Macao. However, due to the scarcity of male dancers in Macao, a dancer from Guangzhou was ultimately added, forming a unique collaborative model with artists from the Greater Bay Area with an international partner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local dancer Leong Pou Seng also shared his experience. He said, \u201cThe choreographer helps dancers explore their inner selves through guidance and questioning. I used my past experience to refine my body language, investing my genuine feelings into the creation. Once my inner emotions were clear, I could express them freely through my body. When collaborating with other dancers, whether in group dances, trios, or duets, communication is crucial. Disagreements are inevitable, and these need to be resolved through communication. Ultimately, the choreographer's decision prevails, ensuring the integrity of the work and allowing the dancers to support each other and enjoy the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
